Hey cheese lovers! Last time Morgan and I checked in, we were in The Big Dipper en route to the Indy 500, in Indianapolis, IN. Just a reminder, if you want to follow our adventures, go like Gordo’s on Facebook and subscribe on YouTube. Race weekend in Indy was definitely one of a kind, packed full of live music, fast cars, and of course lots of cheese dip. It kicked off on Friday, also know as Carb Day. If you’re like me and have never been to a race before, let me tell you Carb Day isn’t where you drink a ton of beer and eat some pasta. Carb Day (originally Carbureation Day) is the last practice day for the drivers. It use to be the last day drivers could make adjustments to the carburetors on their car. Ironically enough, the Indy cars haven’t had carburetors since 1963, but you don’t mess with tradition. Carb Day also featured a kick off concert with Train, which was a blast!
Saturday was the day before the race, the track is pretty quiet but the infield wasn’t! We saw some more live music from Canaan Smith and Sam Hunt. The energy rolled right over into Sunday morning. I’ll tell you what, race fans do not mess around. Most of them are up and getting ready to throw down by 8 or 9 am to witness what is known as ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ and we were there to provide them with cheese dip and swag. It was a SUPER hot day, so we gave a ton of our hand held fans. That way people could enjoy a slight breeze while eating delicious cheese dip. It was a win/win all around. The race started just after 12 p.m. and lasted over 3 hours. Will Power was the ultimate winner took home the trophy for the Penske team. If you ask me, I think the Big Dipper could’ve given him a run for his money 🙂 Morgan and camera man got to go on the race track and in garages before the race to get you the viewers behind the scenes access! Check it all out in our Indy 500 episode here!
Morgan and I had a fantastic time in Indy, but we had to keep on rolling down the road! Our next stop also involved racing, but we traded our fast cars for quick horses. We spent this weekend at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY, home of the famous Kentucky Derby. The Big Dipper was in the middle of the action all weekend, and provided a ton of fun and games at Downs After Dark, which is Churchill Downs’ epic night racing event. Not only do they have a several horse races throughout the evening, but also a live band, light up games, and plenty to eat and drink. We also gave out light up bracelets, which quickly became a hot commodity and the crowd was glowing with our logo! To see all the behind the scenes from Louisville, watch the episode below!
The Big Dip Trip finished strong at CMA Fest in Nashville, TN, where Morgan and I both call home. We set up shop near Walk of Fame Park where the Chevy Breakout Stage was! Everyday we met some amazing cheese dip lovers, plenty of which were already loyal Gordo’s fans. Our crew worked hard for 4 days in the warm sunshine, serving cheese to the greatest country music fans. People stood in line to enter our contest to win 2 tickets to the iHeart Music Fest in Las Vegas (you can enter too!) and they got all the Gordo’s swag! When the sun went down, we made the trek to Nissan Stadium for the nightly stadium shows and saw some of the most popular artists in country music like Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban and Blake Shelton, just to name a few. CMA Fest is always a blast, and we were so excited to officially partner with the organization this year! Check out our CMA episode below for some exclusive content, including interviews with country artists!
Sadly, the Gordos’s Big Dip Trip has come to an end, but Morgan and I have had such a blast. We got to drive The Big Dipper to all these amazing events and put smiles on thousands of faces with free cheese dip and swag! I couldn’t think of a more exciting way to spend part of the summer. Special thanks to all of our partners; iHeart Radio, Beale Street Music Fest, St. Louis Cardinals and Ballpark Village, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indy 500, Evansville Otters, Churchill Downs and CMA. We’re signing off for now, but I know the both of us would jump at the chance to go on another trip, hopefully coming to a city near you!
