Today’s super fruit is blueberries.  Blueberries are in season May through October.

Blueberries top the list of foods high in antioxidants with the capacity to destroy free radicals.  They are a super fighter of such diseases as cancer and heart disease.  They also help protect the brain from age related conditions.  High in fiber, they are also a boost to gastointestinal function.

Ripe blueberries should be stored in the refrigerator and will be good for about a week.  They also can be frozen.

Add fresh blueberries to cereals, muffins or salads.  Add frozen blueberries to shakes or smoothies.
